Swedish House Mafia is the Stockholm trio of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, the last two of whom have been close friends since they were six years old before they later pulled Axwell into the orbit and reportedly settled on the group name standing outside a 7-Eleven at night drinking coffee. In 2011 they became the first electronic act to sell out three consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden, then dissolved on stage at Ultra Miami in 2013 only to reunite as an unannounced closing act on the very same stage exactly five years later, a piece of EDM theatre that helped make the surprise comeback a festival cliché. Their 2022 album Paradise Again relaunched the project in a darker, more cinematic register and led to a Coachella headline slot alongside The Weeknd after Kanye West dropped off the bill, cementing their status as one of the few dance acts treated like a rock band by the wider pop world.
