Ricardo Villalobos is a Chilean-born, Germany-raised electronic music producer and DJ who is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in minimal techno and microhouse, having moved to Germany at age three after the Pinochet coup of 1973. Drawing inspiration from artists like Depeche Mode, Daniel Bell, and rhythmic South American music, he began making electronic music in the late eighties and released his first record on the German Playhouse label in 1994 before turning professional in 1998. Alongside fellow Chilean artists Luciano and Dandy Jack, he has helped shape the sound of European minimal techno, building a legacy rooted in deep musical curiosity and genre-defying creativity.
