Omar Ahmad
Using a combination of rich recorded instrumentation and live manipulation, Omar Ahmad aims to invoke a proto-genre, natural atmosphere that envelopes his audience in a dark, ritualistic sense of community.
He is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist whose desire to derive the essential elements of sound has grown towards found-sound immersions, globally-influenced musical storytelling, and lush atmospheric compositions with age.
As a third culture musician, he often finds himself looking to voice his own state of being caught in between movements and never fully belonging to a singular sound or ideology.
In 2023 he released his debut album, Inheritance, via AKP Recordings with critical acclaim including BandCamp's Best Ambient and DJ Mag's "Artist You Need to Hear" recognition.
In addition to producing his own work, Ahmad is a contributing DJ at Laylit, the largest and fastest-growing contemporary Middle Eastern and North African music community in New York, and alongside Miss Alicia (Alicia Coleman), Ahmad co-founded Ūmboma, a recurring global dance series emphasizing African, Arab and Latin American contemporary rhythms. A combination of Arabic, Swahili and Spanish words, Ūmboma signifies a Congregation of Freedom & Dance.
